What is timbales instruments?

Timbales are percussion instruments that originated in Cuba. They consist of two drums of different sizes, one smaller and one larger, made of metal or wood. The drums are typically mounted on a stand and played with sticks or mallets. The smaller drum is called the "hembra" and the larger drum is called the "macho." They are played with one hand while the other hand holds a stick or mallet to strike the drums. Timbales are often used in Latin music genres such as salsa, mambo, and cha-cha-cha. They are also commonly used in jazz and rock music. In addition to their use in music, timbales are also used in rituals and ceremonies in Afro-Caribbean religions such as Santeria and Voodoo.
